Lock-on Training
Sceptre have seen a recent increase in the demand for delivering Continual Professional Development to some of London’s more established security guarding teams.
The topics have been broad but relevant to current industry changes and risks. For example, we have seen a surge in demand for details concerning the forthcoming requirements of Martyn law and how it will affect private sector security. Sceptre has been following the progress of the Martyns law bill as it progresses through parliament, and details are becoming clearer.
We have been able to explain the bill’s broader aims and the likely consequences for event organisers and security teams.
Protestor lock-on’s
Sceptre and partners have also been delivering training to security teams on dealing with protester lock-ons and how to lawfully and practically release protesters who have glued themselves to each other, furniture, or exhibits.
Many industries have been significantly impacted by protesters locking themselves to infrastructure, necessitating the postponement or cancellation of events, sometimes at enormous cost. On many occasions, local police are called, who are trained and equipped to deal with the situation. However, with ever-fewer resources and increasing demand, calls about protester lock-ons are inevitably deemed lower priority, and event organisers can be waiting many hours for a response.
To enable events to continue, Sceptre have been delivering ‘lock on’ training to event and venue security companies so that events can continue safely.
The day-long training is aimed at SIA-qualified security staff responsible for protecting events and venues. We cover legal powers and policies and discuss the protesters’ aims, what disruption techniques they use, and how their behaviour and that of the security staff can impact external perception and optics. Much of the training concerns the practicality of de-bonding and how to release safely in a legal and ethically compliant manner.
Feedback has been very positive, and we have seen increased demand for training other teams.
If you’re responsible for protecting an upcoming event or venue and are interested having other options to deal with protester lock-on then get in touch.
